THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS ACT
The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is the federal law that governs the relationship among employers, unions and employees nationwide. The NLRA protects an employee’s right to engage – or not engage – in unionization and other activities. Your decision to vote “yes” or “no” in this election will in no way affect your employment.
Under the NLRA, you have the right to:
Sign or not sign a union authorization card or petition
Support or not support a union
Campaign for or against a union
Help or not help a union (like IAM) organize your coworkers
Engage in union activity (social media posts, etc.) or decline to engage in union activity
Regardless of whether you support or choose not to support the IAM union, your rights are protected by federal law. LGBG cannot discriminate or retaliate against you in any way because you support a union. Likewise, a union and its organizers cannot discriminate or retaliate against you in any way because you do not support a union.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is the independent federal government agency that is charged with administering and interpreting the NLRA. The NLRB conducts the mechanics of the election process – not IAM, and not LGBG. This helps ensure the secrecy of your ballot and decision!
